Uncle Anthony

When I was a little girl, my uncle Anthony was young and trendy and listened to this on his record player. I thought that he was the coolest man alive...

Can you believe that this was thirty three years ago?

OHMYGOD... I am sooo damn old, and so is Uncle Anthony!

I know, it makes you panic doesn't it?
Last Sunday I was talking to a young man at a drinks party about a super racing car I once had. He was very impressed and asked me how long ago it was, I coughed and spluttered.
He smiled and said, "surely it wasn't that long ago, I mean it can't be, he moved closer"
Oh dear.
I planted him in front of my beautiful niece, who is the same age, I was old enough to be his mother.
I went over to my Darling Husband with his distinguished grey hair, and handsome face. (He's so terribly gorgeous you know.)
We constantly say, OHMYGOD this record cannot be that old!

Perfect Frog!

OHMYGOD!!! A young man has tried to seduce you! I fear that I will implode with jealousy. Tell me more...

Well it was all very flattering until I realised how young he was...and how old I am....
I scarpered quickly, nothing to tell. Thank goodness Darling Husband is so utterly lovely!

Sweet Frog!

Do you indulge in Botox? Do you recommend microdermabrasion? What are your thoughts on colonic hydrotherapy? I kneel at the alter of your perfect grooming...

I was drinking and going to the disco when those songs came out...OMG!!

The striped pants and the bell bottoms - ya - I remember all that stuff well - but a bald guy back then? No - I definitely do not remember stuff like that - it was more huge afros and wild hair than bald.....

Of course - I lived in a place where we didn't get to see music videos so I had not seen this until now - I never knew what Hot Chocolate looked like - and certainly not that he had such a funky microphone...all green and stuff...

Darling Aims,

I remember how they looked because we watched a TV show called Top of the Pops! We also loved to watch Starskey and Hutch!

OHMYGOD, how long ago was that!

Darling Dulwich Mum, Hot Chocolate was on the very first album I ever bought - Now 18. Apparently they have just released Now 68 or something ridiculous. And in those days I would watch This is Your Life and have no idea who anyone was. And I remember Starskey and Hutch, and Cagney and Lacey too. Sob.

Alas, DM,
I fear for the poor boys sanity and eyesight. Actually I'm a big believer in fancy dress, I think my rasta hat, dreadlocks and fake spliff fooled him.

I am slightly disconcerted by the fact you are still willing to admit to how many years ago you can remember things. You need to adopt a far vaguer approach to age adn the passing of time...

The song is still fab, but I always found that singer slightly disconcerting because he hardly moved and never took his eye off the camera. I clicked on to the (in my opinion) even better song "You Sexy Thing" and he was wearing the same trousers! Must have been his signature look.

Sweet Rosie,

I am so sadly out of touch right now that if I watched a current episode of "This is your life" (I know they do not make that show anymore) I wouldn't know who anyone was either. Or would I? In fact, I probably would, I feel that our generation has been robbed...

Indeed GBVC sweetie,

I am sure that age related dimentia will soon sort that out for me! If only they could invent some sort of Botox for my brain.

Darling Expatmum,

Signature trousers indeed, oh dear!
