Only one Henry...

I really adore the dramatisations of Henry the V111, and the casting of Ray Winstone in this role was inspired. But I am sorry Jonathan Rhys-Meyers will never be Henry. I know Nunhead Mum of One quite enjoyed it, but I feel that on this one occasion, she is wrong.

If they must make another costume drama of Henry, could they not be a little more imaginative? I consider it to be a complete waste not to...

Mmm....excuse me, just need to drag myself away from the DVD cover featuring our beloved Lord Ray of Winstone as Henry VIII.

Whilst I agree that young whippersnapper Jonathan DOES do a little something for me when he strides around the screen in doublet and hose and shouting at that nice Sam Neill man, Lord Winstone's potrayal of the great man does a LITTLE more for me......especially in that scene where he's got his shirt off.

Sorry, coming over all unnecessary again.....

Sweet Nunhead Mum Of One,

I must admit I am curious to see how Lord Max of Beasley and Lord Gary of Barlow would look in a doublet and hose... I should imagine that they would distract a girl from her needle point! Pass the smelling salts.

Hi both, I haven't seen Ray Winstone as Henry but it sounds like one for when Husband is travelling... As for J R-M, I'm with you DM. He just can't cut it.

Husband loves this series but, but I'm a bit too much of a stickler for historical accuracy. Like Henry's red hair - not featured. And his height (one of the few 6 footers of his time)- Jonathon is a measly 5' 10'' I would say. And the fact that Anne Boleyn had BROWN eyes (as a brunette myself it makes me mad when what little record there is of us is ignored), not piercing blue as in the series. And that she had 6 - count 'em - 6 fingers on each hand (and no, I do not suffer from this condition myself, before you ask).

Pedantic? Moi?

Indeed darling Potty Mummy,

J R-M is just not the mountain of a man a girl likes to see strutting about in the role of Henry. He looks like the wheezy boy who always had a sick note for Matron to be excused from contact sports...

Hm, plus dear Anne had three (count 'em) breasts........no wonder Henry got rid of K of A tout suite!

Lord Gary of Barlow? Please please no, not in my lifetime!

Dear Nunhead Mum of One,

I am sure that you will find that Catherine of Aragon had a wart on her nose the size of an acorn!

(Just to clarify here - I am sure I am Anne Boleyn re-incarnated, and Nunhead Mum of One is convinced that she was Catherine of Aragon in a previous life...)

Darling Ingenious Rose,

OK perhaps that is simply a perverse fantasy of mine - but it has made me smile on the number 3 bus to work every morning last week...

OK, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers may not be the most realistic Henry VIII, but he ooozes sex and that does it for me.

PS, sorry you think you would be rubbish at doing a MEME's. I think you would be great.

Dear Retired and Crazy,

OK then, I shall try again and let you know how I get on... Do you not think though that Mr Rhys-Meyers looks a little as though he enjoys musical theatre though?

So, it's finally happened, dm.....reading a UK blog and having absolutely NO IDEA what it is about; not because, of course, that it does not make sense - just that I am sooooo in exile.

Ostracised by Henry VIII - who'd have thought?
